The Excellence of the Black Rooster: Chianti Classico Riserva

Discover Menicucci 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG, a red wine that represents the pinnacle of Tuscan winemaking tradition. Complex, elegant, and long-lived, this Chianti Classico Riserva embodies the millennial history of the hills between Florence and Siena, where Sangiovese finds its maximum expression and time becomes an ally of quality.

The History

Chianti Classico is the historic heart of the Chianti denomination, the original area where it all began in the 13th century. In 1716, Grand Duke Cosimo III de' Medici officially defined the borders of Chianti, making it one of the first controlled designation of origin in the world. The symbol of the Black Rooster, which distinguishes Chianti Classico, dates back to the medieval legend of the challenge between Florence and Siena to define territorial borders.

The Riserva represents the most prestigious selection of Chianti Classico: to bear this mention, the wine must age for at least 24 months (of which 3 in bottle) and meet stricter quality parameters. Only the best vintages and the most selected grapes become Riserva, wines destined to evolve over time and provide deep emotions.

Luca Menicucci, a producer who passionately carries on the Tuscan winemaking tradition, cultivates his vineyards on the Chianti Classico hills, where the galestro and alberese soils give the wines that characteristic minerality, elegance, and tannic structure that make them unique in the world. The Menicucci family represents Tuscan artisanal excellence, where every bottle tells of dedication to the territory and respect for tradition.

This 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG stands out for its complex and layered aromatic profile: notes of ripe red fruits (cherry, redcurrant, blackberry), spirits-soaked berries, sweet spices (vanilla, cinnamon), tobacco, leather, cocoa, and balsamic nuances. On the palate it is powerful yet elegant, with noble and well-integrated tannins, a significant structure, and a long, persistent finish. A wine that expresses the complexity of Sangiovese and the aging potential of Chianti Classico.

Production Area

Chianti Classico DOCG, the historical heart of Tuscan winemaking. The vineyards extend over the hills between Florence and Siena, in the municipalities of Greve, Castellina, Radda, Gaiole, Castelnuovo Berardenga, San Casciano, and Barberino Tavarnelle, at an altitude between 250 and 600 meters above sea level.

The terroir is characterized by galestro (clayey schist) and alberese (compact limestone) soils, poor and well-drained, which force the vines to root deeply and produce concentrated, high-quality grapes. The climate is temperate, with warm but ventilated summers and cold winters. The diurnal temperature variations favor the development of complex aromas and optimal phenolic ripening.

This hilly landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2014, is a mosaic of vineyards, olive groves, woods, and medieval villages that represents the essence of Tuscany. Here Sangiovese, the region's main grape variety, finds the ideal conditions to express elegance, longevity, and that characteristic mineral savoriness that makes Chianti Classico unmistakable.
