Garganega: The Noble Grape of Veneto

Discover the Bianco Garganello IGT by Fugolo Gianluca 2025, a white wine that celebrates Garganega, a noble and traditional indigenous Veneto grape variety. Fresh, elegant, and mineral, this white wine is a pure expression of the grape variety that made Soave famous worldwide and which here finds a new, modern, and territorial interpretation.

The History

Garganega is one of the oldest and noblest white grape varieties in Veneto, cultivated for centuries in the provinces of Verona and Vicenza. Its name probably derives from the dialect term "garganega," which refers to the throat of birds, due to the elongated shape of the berries. This grape variety is the undisputed star of Soave, one of the best-known Italian white wines in the world, but it also finds excellent expression in other areas of Veneto.

Garganega is a versatile grape variety with great personality: it produces fresh and mineral wines when vinified in steel, but can also yield complex and long-lived whites when aged in wood or made from appassito grapes (as in Recioto di Soave). Its main characteristics are aromatic elegance, savory freshness, and that distinctive bitter almond note on the finish that makes it unmistakable.

Gianluca Fugolo, an innovative producer from the Verona area, chose to vinify Garganega in purity, creating a white wine that expresses the varietal character of the grape with freshness and immediacy. The name "Garganello" is a playful tribute to the grape variety, while also evoking the tradition and modernity of the production approach.

This Bianco Garganello IGT 2025 stands out for its fresh and floral aromatic profile: notes of white flowers (acacia, hawthorn), white-fleshed fruit (pear, golden apple, white peach), citrus fruits (lemon, grapefruit), and a touch of aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is fresh, savory, and mineral, with a pleasant acidity that provides lift and persistence, and that characteristic almond-like finish typical of Garganega. A highly drinkable and elegant wine.

Production Area

Veneto IGT, province of Verona. The vineyards stretch across the Veronese hills, in an area suited to the cultivation of Garganega, at an altitude between 100 and 400 meters above sea level. The climate is temperate, with beneficial influences from Lake Garda and the pre-Alpine foothills that create ideal temperature fluctuations to preserve acidity and develop complex aromas.

The soils are predominantly volcanic and limestone, rich in minerals, which give the wines that characteristic mineral savoriness and freshness that distinguishes quality Veneto whites. Garganega finds ideal conditions in these soils to express elegance, finesse, and that almond-like note that makes it unique.

Vinification takes place in steel at controlled temperatures to preserve the grape variety's primary aromas and freshness. No passage in wood, to maintain the clean, fresh, and varietal character of Garganega. The result is a modern, elegant, and highly drinkable white wine.
