Full Description
The 2021 Barolo Classico DOCG by Voerzio Martini is a red wine of great elegance and authenticity, a true expression of the Langhe hills in Piedmont. Universally considered the "King of wines and the wine of Kings", this Barolo classically interprets the winemaking tradition of the region, reflecting Voerzio Martini's production philosophy: respect for the land, artisanal care, and a constant pursuit of quality.
Grape Variety and Terroir
Produced exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes, the symbolic grape variety of Piedmont and among the most prestigious in the world. The grapes come from vineyards located in various suitable areas of the Barolo region, on the marl-calcareous soils typical of the Langhe. The favorable exposure and microclimate characterized by strong temperature variations between day and night allow for slow and complete ripening of the grapes, essential for developing aromatic finesse and structure.
Tradition and Sustainability
Voerzio Martini manages its vineyards following careful and sustainable agricultural practices, with full respect for the environment and biodiversity. Vineyard management is focused on quality rather than quantity, with controlled yields and meticulous manual labor. Every production phase is carefully monitored, combining local tradition with modern oenological knowledge.
Production Method and Aging
Harvest and Vinification
The harvest is carried out exclusively by hand, generally in the second half of October, when the Nebbiolo reaches full phenolic maturity. After careful selection of the bunches, the grapes are gently pressed. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature, with maceration on the skins for about 15–20 days, to extract color, tannins, and noble aromatic compounds.
The Art of Aging
The wine matures for at least 38 months, a significant portion of which is spent in large oak barrels, in compliance with the Barolo DOCG regulations. This long aging allows the wine to acquire complexity, balance, and elegance, maintaining the typical characteristics of Nebbiolo and guaranteeing excellent potential for evolution over time.
Winemaking and Temperature
Winemaking and Temperature
Fermentation takes place with a submerged cap in stainless steel tanks, lasting 15-20 days, with continuous temperature and oxygenation control. All operations performed after alcoholic fermentation, up to and including bottling, are done by protecting the wine from contact with oxygen using nitrogen. This ensures better preservation of the wine's aromas and coloring agents and a significant reduction in the use of sulfites.
